Technical Details
"The smell of the gambeson was familiar to Gerwyn. It smelled of tobacco, old mead, and thyme. It was the smell of his father, and his cooking was soaked into the family's gambeson for years. And now it was Gerwyn's time to wear it. As he strapped it on, he thought of the battle ahead and the honour he would win in his father's name. He felt his blood surging like a great tidal wave and grabbed his shield and spear. Time to fight."
The Epic Armoury Imperial Gambeson is a padded coat with long sleeves that covers the wearer from the neck to the hips. The padding is vertical or horizontal depending on the area, allowing for the greatest movement range. While it can serve as a quilted armour on its own, as has been the case since at least 400 BC, its most common use is padding underneath heavier, metal armour. It was a good if basic, armour, but when combined with plate or chain mail, it stood out as excellent protection against most weapons.
