Trust in steel. It doesn’t need to be fancy, leave that to elves. It doesn’t need to be heavy, leave that to the dwarves. This is practical, good quality, lightweight steel and it will keep you alive in the hottest and most dangerous of fighting.

Your commander’s orders to keep your armour in good shape are never far from your mind, and the fact that you are still alive has proven him right dozens of times. Securely fastened, with a good nightly polish and kept dry when possible, you will fall before your Churburg Armour does. Because you trust in steel, and this steel is the very best.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Epic Black Churburg Complete Set is a simple low-fantasy set of armour that includes a breastplate, backplate, and shoulder guards. These steel riveted pieces have been treated with Epic Armoury's Epic Dark Metal coat to give the armour a rugged, antique finish. Made of 1 mm thick galvanized mild steel and top-grain leather straps and fittings, this armour piece is built to withstand the abuse of a LARP or reenactment with regular leather and metal armour care.

Available in sizes Medium/Large and X-Large/XX-Large; and in colours Polished Steel and Epic Dark.

Churburg Armour

The Churburg Armour is embellished with a wide ‘V’ on the front to deflect attacks away from the head. This armour protects most of the torso, including the ribs and lower back. Secure this armour with the help of a friend, tightening the leather straps across the back and over the shoulders. Thanks to the crossed leather strap design, this armour can better fit your size while also dispersing the armour’s weight. It is fully usable with Epic Armoury’s other metal work products, giving you the freedom to customize your character’s costume.

Churburg Shoulders

The Churburg Shoulders are a set of two simple spaulders. The spaulders feature one solid metal plate--or lame--featuring a beveled bottom to turn away strikes from the arm. The spaulders are fastened with leather straps around the biceps and at the shoulder, attaching to your gambeson.

HISTORY

  • Loosely based on the Churburg #13 breastplate, a historically famous armour set from the 14th century
  • Historically inspired by what was considered a “transitional” breastplate, meant to be worn with a lot of chainmail
  • Our version is much bigger than the original, protecting the entire chest

  • Made from 1mm/19 gauge thick mild steel
  • Rolled edges with no sharp edges
  • Straps and fittings made from top-grain leather
  • Hand made, welded pieces for maximum durability
  • Epic Armoury Dark oxidization resistant coating

Epic Armoury Dark products are specially treated to resist rust, but should still be treated with oil and kept in dry storage. All our metal armours contain leather parts that need regular maintenance using leather-care products to keep the leather from drying out.

Cleaning

If your armour does get wet, it is important that you dry it thoroughly as soon as possible.

After handling, wearing, or after six months of storage or display, all metal should be wiped with a clean cloth. Lightly oil the clean surface with a quality machine or mineral oil. Alternatively, you can apply a coating of wax to the entire surface of exposed metal. Allow the wax to dry for a couple of hours and then buff it lightly with a soft cloth.

Rust-Prevention and Removal

Store your armour is a dry place and check it every couple of months for signs of rust. If any is found, remove it by gently rubbing the affected spot with a mildly abrasive pad dipped in paste wax, oil, or water-displacing liquid.

Leather Straps and Fittings

Clean by removing dirt with a hard brush, then gently rub on leather soap with a clean, damp cloth until the leather appears clean. Remove soap with a separate damp cloth to wipe away any soap residue and then use a dry cloth to wipe away any remaining water from the leather.

You should always condition leather after cleaning, since the soap will have removed some of its natural oils. Treat the leather with mink oil, olive oil, or beeswax polish with a clean cloth, gently rubbing a small amount of oil or polish in circles into the leather. Allow the leather to soak in the oil before wiping the leather with a final clean cloth to remove any excess residue.
